Here it is for your perusal and comments. This is my first try at designing a track plan. I am using the Atlas RTS 8.0 track planning software. I have found this program to be the easiest to learn. Other software programs have more features and capabilities, but also have a steeper learning curve and are less intuitive than RTS 8.0.

Alligator Lines Scenery Project 11: Update #1

After finishing Project 10 and moving on to Project 11, I was thinking a relatively quick and easy embankment scene with some stones, shrubs and maybe a few trees. But something was nagging at me! It seemed so boring!

History of the Turtle Creek Industrial RR

The idea for the original TCIRR was developed as a freelance plan based on the actual Union RR in Western Pennsylvania. I liked the Duquesne Wharf idea as a unique item to model. So I used Google to look over maps of the area and the map of the Union RR and I came up with several station names from the area. Turtle Creek, Clairton, Duquesne and Bessemer were among the towns in the area. So I used these in my plan. The plan presented in my previous blog is the version I came up with. So, a few days ago I was looking fo
New name for my layout

My layout has a new name. It's now called the Hudson and Connecticut. At least that part is done and that is more than I can say about the rest of it. I do have to work on that or I may not have a place to run trains after February 28.
Reindeer Tracks

It has been snowing, off and on, here in the Magic Valley of Southern Idaho since last Wednesday morning, December 17th. Late that night as I was getting ready to go to bed, I heard some noise out back. I got down my favorite shot gun and went out to investigate. I suspected that the snow had driven some varmints out of the mountains. I found nothing wrong as I wandered around the homestead. As I was preparing to go inside I spotted these tracks. I got my camera and took these pictures.

Greetings N Scalers!

Hello all! My name is Jerry Quinn. I live north of Seattle in the Snohomish area, which is some of the most beautiful area in the country. I work for a large software company located in the Redmond area (
I am sure you can figure out which one!) and have been into N scale for about the past year and a half.
Protect me from what I want...

Early this summer I changed jobs - moving from 'higher education' to public education. I am happy with the move, however there is one small caveat: as I now work for a public school board I am subject to the Internet filtering that all students must endure. As such, I can't get to this site easily! (we block all things 'fun') For this reason, I haven't had much of an opportunity to log-in and keep up to date.
Turtle Creek Industrial RR

I have been making small changes to the original plan and would like discussion on what I have done so far. I expanded the size to 50 inches by 102 inches so that I can get 2 short staging areas without having them as removable shelf like additions.
Operation of the Willamette Pacific - plans for the near future

As outlined in the history of the WillPac, we are a humble regional short line, under joint control of the Southern Pacific and Union Pacific. None of the track over which we ply our trade is actually owned by this railroad; it is ALL Espee track, either leased or accessed via trackage rights.
jpegs, gifs and bitmaps...am I a gallery slave?

Ok I posted a few weeks ago that I was back working on the layout, and you expected I'd be posting regularly, keeping you all up to date on my progress. I would have too, but since the guys are creating little "tutorials" when they scratch build something, I was gonna do the same.
A few more cars.

OT: The most used two letter word in the English language!

I have some friends that send me all kinds of stuff, most of which I simply delete! Sometimes it strikes as being worthwhile and worthy of sharing with others. This is one such item. While nothing to do with MRRing, I found it to be very interesting and I thought you might too! Yes, I know a lot of the usage below is slang and wouldn't be used in "correct" conversation. But we all use slang, at least once in awhile!
Building Boom in Rigby Town

As previously mentioned, an assessment of structural needs on the layout pointed out the need for a DPW building, a church, and a school house. I narrowed down the choices of available churches and settled on the "Old South Church" by Northeastern. Having been very happy with other Northeastern kits I've built, I ordered one from Mike along with Atlas' new Kim's house, based on a Sears design. Yesterday I sat down with the church in front of me and got started. Unfortunately, I was well along in its construction before I realized I hadn't taken any photos so, all I have to
